Commercial drone insurance in Arizona
Your general liability policy excludes drones. We place drone liability and hull coverage through our market SkyWatch, on its own or alongside the rest of your business insurance. Tell us how you fly and we will place it.
What does commercial drone insurance cover?
Commercial drone insurance covers the two exposures your business policy leaves out when you fly for work. The liability side responds if your drone injures someone or damages property, which is the coverage clients ask you to prove before they let you on a job. The hull side covers the aircraft itself, and usually the attached camera or sensor payload, if it is damaged, lost, or stolen.
What makes this a separate policy is the aircraft exclusion built into nearly every general liability, property, and business owners policy. Drones are unmanned aircraft, so that exclusion applies to them. A dedicated drone policy fills the gap, and it can name your clients as additional insureds so the certificate they want lines up with the coverage you carry.
Liability
Third-party bodily injury and property damage if your drone hurts someone or damages property. This is the coverage clients and venues ask you to prove before a job.
Hull (physical damage)
The drone and its attached gear if it is damaged, lost, or stolen. Worth having once the aircraft and payload are expensive to replace.
Personal and privacy injury
Coverage for invasion-of-privacy and personal-injury claims that can come with aerial photo and video work, where available.
Why drone operators need their own policy
Whether you fly full time or add drone work to another business, the aircraft exclusion means the coverage has to be bought on purpose.
Your business policy excludes drones
Almost every general liability, property, and business owners policy carves out aircraft, and drones count. Fly one for work and that loss is on you unless a separate drone policy covers it.
Clients require proof of coverage
Construction sites, real estate brokerages, and infrastructure owners usually want a certificate of insurance naming them before they let a drone on site.
Name clients at no extra cost
SkyWatch lets us add additional insureds with no added fee, so we can issue the certificate a client asks for without a re-quote.
Protect an expensive aircraft
Once you are flying a Matrice or a mapping rig with a payload, a single crash can cost thousands. Hull coverage repairs or replaces it.
We build your drone coverage and place it with SkyWatch
SkyWatch is our drone market, built for Part 107 pilots. You tell us about your drones and how you fly, and we quote and place the policy for you, then hand over the certificate of insurance your client is waiting on. One point of contact for this and the rest of your business coverage.
A limit that fits your contracts
SkyWatch writes liability from $500K to $5M. Tell us what your clients require and we match it, or advise a limit if you are not sure.
Clients added as additional insureds free
We can name a client, venue, or property owner on the policy at no added cost, which is what most certificate requests really need.
Hull coverage when it is worth it
We add physical-damage coverage for the aircraft and payload when the replacement cost justifies it, and skip it when it does not.
Annual, monthly, or by the flight
Cover a steady operation for the year, or arrange coverage by the month for occasional paid flights. We place the option that fits how you fly.
Two ways to get started
Need drone coverage only, or drone plus the rest of your business insurance? Either way you start in the same place, and we place the coverage with SkyWatch from there.
Drone coverage only
Start the questionnaire and tell us it is drones only. Answer a few questions about your aircraft, how you fly, and the limit you need. We quote it, place it with SkyWatch, and send you the policy and certificate.
Start the questionnaireDrone plus other coverage
Run a business that also flies a drone? Start the same questionnaire and tell us you use a drone. We shop your business coverage and place the drone policy alongside it, so nothing is left exposed.

Does my general liability policy cover drones?
Almost never. Standard general liability, property, and business owners policies exclude aircraft, and drones (unmanned aircraft systems) fall under that exclusion. If you fly a drone for your business, that exposure needs a separate drone policy, which is why we place drone coverage through SkyWatch.
Do I need a Part 107 license to get drone insurance?
For commercial (paid) drone work the FAA requires a Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate, and insurers price coverage around it. You do not need insurance to hold the certificate, but you generally need the certificate to fly for hire, and most clients will ask for both.
How much does commercial drone insurance cost?
It depends on your limit, your operations, and whether you add hull coverage for the aircraft. For a single Part 107 pilot carrying $1M in liability, annual premiums often start in the hundreds of dollars. Monthly and shorter-term options exist for occasional flying. Send us your details and we will come back with real numbers.
What is hull coverage?
Hull coverage pays to repair or replace the drone itself, and often the attached camera or sensor payload, if it is damaged, lost, or stolen. Liability covers harm you cause to others; hull covers your own equipment. Whether it is worth adding usually comes down to how expensive your aircraft is to replace, and we will make a recommendation.
Can I add a client as an additional insured?
Yes. SkyWatch lets us name clients, venues, and property owners as additional insureds at no extra charge, which is what most certificate-of-insurance requests are really asking for. We issue the certificate once the policy is bound.
What kinds of drone work can be covered?
Common commercial uses include real estate and property photography, roof and structure inspections, construction progress and mapping, surveying, agriculture, and public safety support. If your use is unusual, tell us up front so the carrier can confirm it's eligible before you rely on the coverage.
I run another business and also use a drone. What do I do?
You need two things: your regular business policy for your operations, and a separate drone policy for the aircraft. When you fill out our quote questionnaire, tell us you use a drone and we will place the drone coverage alongside the rest of your business insurance.
